Dr. Hans J. Blommestein, a Dutch graduate in economics from the Free University of Amsterdam obtained his Ph.D. in 1985. He joined the OECD in 1989 and during the period 1998-2000 was Acting Head of the Financial Affairs Division of the OECD. He has held various positions: CSCE Professor of Economics, Department of Public Administration and Public Policies, University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands, Visiting Professor, University of Akron, and Visiting Scientist at the Smithsonian Institution. He participated as Advisor in many IMF missions to Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union. During his tenure at the Dutch Ministry of Finance he was personal assistant to the Chairman of the Interim Committee of the IMF (the highest policy-making body of the IMF). He has published numerous articles and served on several International Advisory Boards. As a specialist in the Financial Services Industry, he also works with representatives from the financial services industry, including pension funds, insurance companies, stock exchanges, and banks.
