Marianne Nivert
President and CEO, Telia

Marianne Nivert has been President of Telia AB and Chief Executive Officer of the Telia Group since October 11, 2000. Marianne Nivert graduated from high school in 1960 and entered Televerket’s (the Swedish telecom administration) two-year telecom engineer programme one year later. She was appointed to her first managerial position in 1976, when she was hired as Administrative Manager for Telverket’s Industrial Division, better known in Sweden as Teli. In the following year, 1977, Marianne Nivert was appointed Telecom Director with full responsibility for all business related to fixed network in the Stockholm area. In 1982, she took a position as Manager of the Gothenburg Telecom Area on Sweden’s west coast. When Telia’s operations were divided into regions in 1992, she was appointed Manager of Telia Region East. When the state telecom monopoly Televerket was transformed into a company in 1993 and Sweden’s telecommunications market was deregulated, Telia was re-uired to carry out a major change programme. As Director of Human Resources of the Telia Group, Marianne Nivert implemented a personnel transition programme that is still being used as model for similar change activities by telecom com-panies around the world when they privatise their operations. In 1997, Marianne Nivert became Executive Vice President and a member of Telia’s Group Executive Management with special responsibility for network services, Telia’s most important growth area. In 1998, she was appointed Head of the newly-formed business area Network Services.
