Joined Reuters as a journalist in 1963. From 1971 worked to develop the company's business in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. From 1978 until 1991 headed the company's operations in Asia. Retired from Reuters effective July 2001. Chairman of the International Advisory Board of Nasdaq, Non-executive director of Schroders plc, GlaxoSmithKline plc, TIBCO Software Inc. and Instinet Group LLC. Former non-executive director of Diageo plc. Age 60.
