Birojs 2000 Ltd. (hereinafter – Birojs), the
Co-ordination Centre of the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Bank
for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Riga has presented the final report on the
organisational expenses of the EBRD meeting to the minister R.Zile. In the aggregate 1.6
million lats out of 2.1 million lats allocated for the organisation of the meeting from
the state budget have been spent. This sum will be reduced by 106 000 lats to be
transferred to the State Treasury from the Nordic Fund (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden)
for the EBRD Annual Meeting in Riga, thus resulting in the expected expenses of 1.5
million lats of the state budget funding used for the organisation of the meeting.
Due to the marketing and sponsorship programme developed by Birojs
resources and services amounting to 572,168 lats were attracted to the organisation
of the EBRD Annual Meeting and the Baltic Business Conference in Riga. The EBRD Annual

Selga Laizane, Director of Birojs 2000, is satisfied with the
accomplished work: “I am really pleased with the companies that provided the services
and equipment necessary for the EBRD meetings, as they proved the world that local
companies in Latvia are able to ensure the required quality and meet the western
standards”.
As announced earlier the total resources allocated for the restoration
and reconstruction of the venues of the Meeting amount to 6.75 million lats,
including 3.68 million lats allocated within the State Investment Programme and 3.07
million lats invested by the Riga municipality.
Two charity concerts were held during the EBRD Meeting in Riga – one
in the Latvian National Opera, another in the Riga Dom. Due to donations and tickets sold
to the charity concerts a total of 6322 lats was raised for the charity purpose –
the computer room for training blind children at Strazdumuiza Boarding School – Training
Centre for Visually Impaired and Blind Children, but 2467 lats raised for
children who have suffered from violence were split into three equal parts and
transferred to Riga Samaritans Association’s Rehabilitation Centre for Children
Who Have Suffered from Violence, Family Care Centre “Bulduri” and the
Talsi Crisis Centre for Women and Children.
Although most of Birojs staff have intended to spend July on
their annual vocation, work on the next project has already started as the Cabinet of
Ministers assigned Birojs to organise the Month of European Culture in Latvia in August
and September 2001.
