The envelopes with the bids for the tender, announced by SIA Biojs 2000, for the right to design logo for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Board of Governors' Annual Meeting in Riga on 20 – 22 May 2000, were opened today at 13:00. We have received 11 bids which were submitted by the following persons: Juris Alksnis, Normunds Broks, Marina Bruzgule, Ingūna Elere, Elga Lakstiņa – Lakstīgala, Aivars Paiders, Egīls Pārups, Dace Runča, Gatis Vanags, Otto Zitmanis, Sanda Belsone and Igors Sitnovs.

The bids were assessed by the Tender Commission of the following experts: Selga Laizāne, Director, SIA Birojs 2000, Chairperson of the Tender Commission, Jānis Osis, Rector of the Latvian Academy of Art, as well as Anda Kalniņa and Māris Tiknuss, Project Managers, SIA Birojs 2000, and Laila Škoba, Legal Counsel, SIA Birojs 2000.

The goal of the assessment, made by the Tender Commission, was to determine artistically and visually most adequate group of offers for the logo of the EBRD Board of Governors' Meeting in Riga. The three best designs were determined during the tender assessment and the designs will be respectively awarded with the prizes of LVL 300, LVL 200 and LVL 100.

Upon revision of all the bids, the Commission decided to award the first prize to I.Elera's bid, which is based on the fragment of the 14th century Riga city coat of arms in the form of a coin. The Commission decided to award the second prize to the bid with the name "RĪGA" in the background, designed by S.Belsone and I.Sitnovs. The Commission decided to award the third prize to the bid with a stylised silhouette of Riga, designed by I.Elera.

The Tender Commission will submit all the three awarded bids to the Supervisory Committee for Organising the EBRD Meeting. The above bids will be assessed at the Supervisory Committee meeting on 18 February 1999. The bid selected by the Supervisory Committee will be sent to London to be approved by the EBRD. The approved logo will be used as the symbol of the EBRD Board of Governors' Meeting in Riga on 20 – 22 May 2000.
